Below is my AP Studio Art (Drawing) concentration from 2016-2017, for which I received the highest score of 5. My concentration explores water’s many relationships with society and the earth. Every living thing depends on water’s abundance and benevolence; yet water also has the power to destroy entire civilizations. I am deeply fascinated by this chemical compound and how much force it holds. I aimed to depict water as a unique entity with an unpredictable personality.
The portfolio begins by investigating water’s initial beauty and ability to sustain and protect life. As my portfolio progresses, the personality of water unfolds until it feels as though it is a living entity that can both give and take away life. As society drains resources and quickens the pace of climate change, I explored how these events would alter water’s impacts. Ultimately, water becomes a life force that defines the world’s successes and critical failures.
